Dental ExamDental Exam

On your first visit the doctor will perform a complete exam of your teeth, your gums, your TMJ, and your entire mouth. An oral cancer screening will be performed by checking face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums. Only necessary x-rays will be taken to diagnose any cavities or dental problems.

Digital X-rays

Our office is equipped with the latest technology in dental x-rays: digital radiography. Instead of using traditional film, the x-ray image is transferred to a computer screen for viewing and storage. The process requires 50% less radiation than traditional x-rays.

Sealants

A sealant is a composite resin material that is placed over the natural grooves in your teeth to prevent any cavities from forming there. Sealants are highly recommended for children and adolescents.

Hygiene

It is recommended that you have your teeth professionally cleaned every six months. Our dental hygienists provide excellent service with a gentle touch and warm smile. Your cleaning appointment will include the following:

  • Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth and is now attached to the tooth surface. It forms above the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.
  • Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is composed of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria can cause inflammation of gums and lead to periodontal disease.
  • Teeth polishing: Stains and plaque that are not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling will be removed.

A deeper cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, may be required if you have periodontal (gum) disease.

Fluoride Treatment

We offer fluoride treatment in our office. Fluoride can be applied to teeth in either varnish or foam. Fluoride has been proven to strengthen teeth and prevent future cavities. Fluoride is especially important for children and teens.
